I had the profound joy of hearing Thich Nhat Hanh live in September 2009. I feel so excited to be able to share that another opportunity to hear him speak live is right around the corner.
If you have not yet encountered his teachings yet, Thich Nhat Hanh is a writer, speaker, peace activist, human rights advocate and above all, a simple monk. Why do I even add that? Because there is a serene well of peacefulness that exudes from him, despite the turmoil and violence that he has seen in his life. This is someone who lives what he teaches, which is the type of teacher that I seek to learn from. It is that state of grounded, breathing compassion that I seek to make the core of my being, rather than the Overworked Overwhelmed Overachiever mode that I’ve perfected over the decades.
Thich Nhat Hanh takes ancient teachings about mindfulness and concentration (obviously, this is the meditation piece) and teaches you how to live them in a modern day schedule (this is the yoga piece, also known as embodiment). In 1967 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize … this is how long he has been sharing and embodying his message of peace.
I’ve already got my tickets for his 2011 talk “Enjoying the Miracle of Now” … I hope to see you there! And if you are inspired … consider joining him for his retreat from Sept 6-Sept 11!
What are the practices that will help us to be able to touch the core of our being and be able to live fully the gift of this moment? During this talk, the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh, one of the foremost teachers of engaged Buddhism will offer concrete practices of reconnection, reconciliation and interbeing.
Date: September 3, 2011
