Sept 19, 2011 On-Line 9 Weeks with Marshall Rosenberg (Nonviolent Communication)

As I write this blog post, directly after the Thich Nhat Hanh one, I’m appreciating how blessed I’ve been to be able to hear such masterful teachers of mindfulness and embodiment speak live … to be able to study at the feet of the masters. For the past 2 years, Marshall Rosenberg, the brilliant founder of Nonviolent Communication, curtailed his in-person talks which he used to do all over the world. I’ve heard that his health has been fragile, which has informed his travel schedule. So here is a unique and ideal opportunity to learn from the master from the comfort of your own home!

I’ve been practicing Nonviolent Communication for 5 years now and find it to be one of the most effective methods for digesting heady concepts often taught in meditation … concepts like “observation” versus “thoughts”; “non-judgment”; “non-attachment”; “presence”. The best part is that you get to incorporate these concepts into something you do all the time … communicating. The way I see it, NVC is the ultimate embodiment practice (that’s how it ties into yoga!). If you want more details on my perspective, listen to these short videos that I recorded:

What I’ve Learned From NVC

If you sign up for this on-line course, which contains the content of Marshall’s 9 day intensive retreats, you will have the opportunity to participate in 3 live sessions with Marshall over the phone. Any opportunity I’ve had to watch Marshall in action has inspired me to be more forgiving of myself and to accept where I am in my learning process, rather than feel frustrated by where I think I should be.

NONVIOLENT COMMUNICATION ONLINE COURSE

Modeled after this visionary peacemaker’s 9-day international intensive retreats, The Nonviolent Communication Online Training Course invites you to join Marshall Rosenberg himself to discover transformational skills — skills you will learn to successfully apply whether you’re in the office, at the dinner table, or engaging members of your community — any time you want to honor “what is alive” in yourself and others. Marshall Rosenberg teaches that it is our nature to enjoy giving and receiving in a compassionate and loving manner. Whether you’re just getting started or already fluent in Nonviolent Communication, here is the definitive resource for using this life-saving approach to connect with others with empathy, integrity, and peace.

  1. I am seriously thinking about doing this course.

    • It promises to be a great course – people who’ve done the live intensive residential with Marshall Rosenberg come back completely transformed. Not everyone can take the time off or afford the flight and fees to do that live, so this appears to be a wonderful alternative. So Tom, I’m wondering what information do you need to support either a “Yes/No”? I’ve observed that when I am in the space of “thinking about doing” something , I often end up frozen in the dead zone of “indecision” or “disconnection” – in other words, in my head and no longer connected to what’s alive for me. Believe it or not, being able to connect easily and fully with what’s alive within you is an essential piece of Nonviolent Communication (NVC).

  2. Thanks for the recommendation, Meenal. – I’ve been longing for a calendar match for an NVC seminar. Am looking forward to the insights that this course promises!

    • Camille, I would love to hear your experience as you proceed with the course. I’ve been impressed thus far with all that I’ve purchased through this particular site, but I have not yet done a live course through them. I’ve heard only amazing things about the NVC residential intensive, but I know that most people cannot take 10 days out of their schedules. I feel excited that more and more NVC programs are being offered in an on-line format so that more people can access them on the go.
