You already know about my passion for the Social Justice Fund for Ventura County (SJF), which led to my husband and I creating a matching gift challenge earlier this year. Face it, I’m a solution seeker, who gets fed up of hearing about the same problems repeatedly from the media. I seek out innovative thinkers, approaches, and solutions that strive to fix the problem at the source, rather than apply larger and larger bandages. I never dreamt that I would discover a network of organizations, with that same perspective, right here in my backyard. With each live encounter, I leave energized and inspired, having learned some cold hard facts, while hearing from people who have the passion and perspective to make a difference.
This event is intended to be the first of many evenings of learning and discovery, with the intention
to include as wide an audience as possible. The hope is to start a dialogue that will ripple throughout Ventura County. The focus of this evening will be illuminating those ideas and attitudes that unknowingly divide us because they are embedded so deeply in our culture that we can’t even see them. A fitting focus given the full title of the program: “Building a Strong Community: Breaking through barriers of power, privilege and oppression to create CommUnity”

PS. What does this have to do with meditation and yoga? Everything! A unexpected side benefit of meditation is being able to see more clearly those thoughts and beliefs that keep you stuck … wanting your life to be different, but caught in the same pattern that got you here in the first place. Yoga is ultimately a process of self-reflection, digestion, integration and action … that once you know there is a belief that is getting in your way, you can digest the ramifications of change with ease and navigate new options to find those that most resonate with where you are heading. That is what we do internally through yoga and meditation. This evening is about engaging in the external version of that same process.
PPS. If you are eager to explore meditation more deeply, check out my Mpowerment Meditations course where Overworked Overwhelmed Overachievers will learn that they are only one breath away from Balance and Ease.
